THE UNOFFICIAL OFFICIAL FRIENDING MEMORANDIUM. Or something along those lines. It's four in the morning, cut me some slack. The Book of Seren. 26.Chaotic Good. My religion does not have a name. Third Culture Kid, former brat and DoDDs attendee. (Falcons FTW.) Single. PFLAG, because it's kind of ridiculous that I can get married anywhere I live and my best friend can't. Kind of big on the equality thing- but it works both ways. Childhood infatuation with the Marine Corps that hasn't entirely faded. Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion. The Chronicles of Narnia. Freak the Mighty. The Little Prince. Harry Potter. Bones. CSI: Miami. Naruto. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. The Wallflower. Alice in Wonderland, straight Through the Looking Glass. Anything Edgar Allan Poe. Sin City. ANYTHING Kurt Vonnegut. Gears of War ♥; Cole Train is king. Bioshock. I don't really watch movies unless seppuku_king yells at me. SPASTIC FANDOM LOVE, HOORAY! History, all of it. Kings and Queens and Wars, oh my! Sarmatia and Sparta, Italy and Wales, France and Korea, Japan and Libya. And everything else indeed. Swords and knives, tactical warfare piques my interest and explosions make my day. Chess. ♠. Stars. The desert. The ocean. The air. Did I mention explosions? Silence. Guitar? Guitar! Loving v. Virginia: Proof that good people can change the world. Next up? Surrounded as I am now by wonderful children and grandchildren, not a day goes by that I don’t think of Richard and our love, our right to marry, and how much it meant to me to have that freedom to marry the person precious to me, even if others thought he was the “wrong kind of person” for me to marry. I believe all Americans, no matter their race, no matter their sex, no matter their sexual orientation, should have that same freedom to marry. Government has no business imposing some people’s religious beliefs over others. Especially if it denies people’s civil rights.
I am still not a political person, but I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.
- Mildred Loving, 12 June 2007 I love music. Lots of it. I don't care for the elitist bullshit side of it, if it's good, I like it. (I still hate Katy Perry. But only 'cause her music sucks.) Imperatrix of Doiona- but only in my own head. Lots of invisible friends. I am not invincible, just mildly indestructible. Also, stereotype_vamp. :) I love her, and so should you. (Pst. Part of my family? Remind me, bitches!)

tierran Best friendFic @ mausolea_fics. Herein begins the journey of the Fool. The following is a list of things that I don't particularly give a shit about, in regards as to whether you want to be my friend or not: your religion, your sexuality (or lack thereof, in certain cases, so long as you're not into hurting kids), your OTP (I have around twelve- willing to share and not all that picky), your taste in music, your political party, your philosophical beliefs, how many piercings and tattoos you do or don't have, what colour your hair is, what country you live in, whether or not you like your professors, your favourite television show, your favourite movie, how much you drink and smoke, if you still sleep with stuffed animals (I do), and so on and so forth. Cool? Cool.

Writer ppl pls lolstringcheese. Fanfiction and original fiction alike. Can you all do me a favour? You know those writer's sheets floating about, the character ones? I want to do something like that (for myself, and my characters). So I need questions. This isn't some huge internets project that I plan on spreading far and wide. But the vast majority of my flist are writers of some sort, or else avid readers, but more importantly, you're all people whose opinion I respect and trust. So anything. Anything you'd ask a character- or even a real person- about themselves if you wanted to get to know them better. Hair colour, eye colour, super powers, phobias, fears, etc etc. Anything and everything- no question is stupid or detail too little. And I'm making this an open post, so if you have friends who like to do this thing- tell them too. Please? Pretty please? Thanks! Tags: public, writing

1. How far back can you trace your family tree? According to my dad, he can trace back some parts of our family to the Norman Conquest of England. I don't know about that, though. As for my mother's side, Koreans are pretty good about keeping track, but it's something like Korean transliterated in Chinese, so good luck with that.
2. What is the most interesting (or strange) thing you've heard about one of your relatives? Apparently, someone turned down dinner with Richard Nixon because they couldn't find a baby-sitter. Other than that... we're peasant farmers and soldiers. Pretty banal shit.
3. How do you feel about legacy names like John Henry Smith IV or naming children after other relatives? Well, there's a tradition with boys with a specific middle name that I intend to continue, so why not? I don't see the fuss.
4. Would you consider yourself and/or your family to be traditional? My parents are to a degree (mother is a housewife, father works, they don't believe in divorce) but other than that, not really- unless you consider abstaining from pre-martial sex traditional. Am I? Not on your life.
5. What is one tradition you have passed on to your children and/or plan to pass on to them? Um, martial arts and fine arts training (music or visual arts). Other than that, it depends on whether I end up with any grandaughters.

Holiday Wishlist: Step One - Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want. - If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. - Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread. Step Two - Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part: - If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special. ( here we go )This post is open for anyone and everyone to see. Tell your friends to come over and post their lists too!

Completely rewriting the post, as th original wasn't as coherent. Okay, so this is how it works. More or less for my own edification (and so when people ask me, I have one place to point them to), I'm trying to gather as many links to as many different fanfiction archives as I humanly can. Every and any fandom, RPF/RPS included. So if everyone who stumbles across this would be so kind, could you leave some links? What I'm looking for as an archive: [+] Basically, any site that has a dedicated section for fanfiction. It can be anything from a huge, general fanfiction site (like fanfiction.net or ficwad.com) to a sub-board on a miniscule forum, so long as the section is dedicated to fanfiction. Any genre, pairing, sexual specifics (slash, het, femmeslash, age, etc) and so on are accepted, so long as it is for fanfiction. RPF/RPS is accepted. [+] A livejournal/deadjournal/any sort of blog community (not writing journal) that is dedicated to fanfiction, i.e. books_freckles for Hermione/Weasley pairings and ouran_het, for Ouran High School Host Club het fics. As before, it can be fanfiction in general, or somehow specified. [+] A newsgroup like Yahoo!groups that is dedicated to posting fanfiction. What I'm not looking for: [+] No personal archives, please. [+] Any archive that a person has no intention to share with the public. [+] Rec-lists. Usergroups that only rec fics don't count. This post is open for anyone who wants to show up. If you plan on leaving links, I would appreciate it if you at least marked what fandom it was in. Any other extras (like particulars about pairings) is also appreciated, but not neccesary. And please just leave the plain link (so, http://www.fanfiction.net instead of FF.net. And yes, please leave links, not just names of sites. Any questions/comments/etc can be mailed to our_innocence@livejournal.com Tags: archives, fanfiction, help seren out, public entry

Yep, it's drabble/fic request time. Normal rules apply: 01.. Pick from one of the following fandoms: Bleach manga, D. Gray-Man manga, Harry Potter books, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (to the Slippery Slope, I'm behind on the series) or the movie, Ouran High School Host Club anime, X-Men movie verse, Sin City graphic novels, Battle Royale manga, Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass books, or an original drabble of some sort. This, you need to be specific on.02.. I do not write: Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Harry/Draco, Ichigo/Orihime (I tried once... I'm not good at capturing their dynamic), Matsumoto/Gin, twincest, strong squicks. 03.. I am not promising I'm going to be able to write your drabble or fic. I'll try, but sometimes I just fail at coming up with a decent plot. I promise to try. 04.. Please specify if there's something you DON'T want in your story. Use the comments if needed.Poll #844470 Oh yes, it's that time again.

After a discussion with dystopic. Attn: Fandoms of every size, shape, and degree of stupidity; There seems to have been a memo sent out to certain members of fandom. This memo, in fact, states that fandom is very important business. Dear, dear, fandomers, you are wrong. The internet is not for you to declare that your ship, compromised of two or more fictional characters, is right and others are wrong. The internet is not for you to threaten people. The internet is not here to help you boost your emotastic sense of self-esteem by forcing other people to like what you like. The internet is not for forming lynch mobs to harrass other fandom members. THE INTERNET IS FOR PORN AND ILLEGAL MUSIC DOWNLOADS.Keep the drama between you and the people living in your head. If you don't have any, get some. I've got, like, 20 people and it's quite nice. The internet =/= serious business. imagination:: cheerful

So, yes. The comm we're currently pimping is 3rd_hallway, a sixth year, primarily femmeslash HP fanfiction. It's my last day here, and I'm really depressed. I've had a good time. :) Yes, I glomped Kwen, but really, I was just trying to cop a feel. She has Orihime breasts. Seriously. They're like * makes weird hand motions * * shifty eyes * Anyways. Sarah-chan, I got your text message, but I can't respond to texts right now. heidi08, thanks for being so patient with me, and I'm sorry if I screwed anything up. It was nice meeting you. And your kid = the cute. Even when she's trying to eat the microphone. >_> In other news, being the strong-willed, independent woman I am, luciademedici easily railroaded me into going to Phoenix Rising. Anyone else going? inell? penyn_1800? Help a girl out! To everyone I missed, I was being crabby anyways, so you didn't miss much. luciademedici, unperfectwolf, and stereotype_vamp, you are all really fun. What sites do you frequent (non-forum)? What forums do you frequent? Do you have an online journal other than the one you're using to answer this quiz with? Where? How many? My apologies for the lack of earth-shattering questions tonight; my brother called and we discussed a schoolmate we knew and how she died (Kim- C.'s death seems to have two different reports; what you told me, and a car crash. From Latin to French; Latin, miraculum, french, mirari to wonder.
Noun
miracle (plural miracles)
1. a wonderful event occurring in the physical world which has no explanation and is therefore given supernatural meaning * Many religious beliefs are based on miracles. 2. a quality that is wonderful, or surpasses the expectations of the physical world. * Superman, the comic book character, was a miracle worker.
-From Wiktionary
So tell me about your miracles, the little things that blew by everyone else, or the big things that changed your life. Tell me about the little magical things you've seen in day to day life that made you smile, made you laugh, made you wonder about how things work. Or tell me about the things that stopped you dead in your tracks. Something you heard, even if you were the only one who heard it or got it, something from the corner of your eye.

I've never looked into the mirror and thought I was beautiful. I've had days where I've looked at my reflection and thought, 'hey, not bad!', but I don't look in the mirror and see a load of pretty. I usually see under-eye circles and dark rusty hair, funny looking lips and my hat. Sometimes I get confused by my own reflection, mainly because I can't decide what colour my eyes are, since they're fairly opaque looking. Kind of greenish muddy water. But, at least I know what I look like, right? So what are the things that make us beautiful? My mother is a beautiful woman. She's small and thin and she has a really big smile, bigger than mine. She can be a horrible woman, and she can be a protective, warm, and loving woman. But what makes her beautiful? What makes anyone beautiful? We talk about the glow of an expectant mother. To her, life might be miserable at the moment, because of morning sickness and swollen ankles, but they do have that glow, most of them. It's strange because it's not a physical glow, but the way they smile and hold their stomachs, like they found something wonderful. Instinctive protectiveness and a sort of love that defies vomiting and waddling when you walk. I only vaguely remember my mother getting pregnant, so I don't know if she had that glow. My cognizant memory begins a little while before splintered_soul was born, and I was an emotional mess around the time my mother began to show with Matt, because my great-grandmother had died and we were preparing to move to Korea. Well, maybe not an emotional mess, but there were changes in my perception, and my mother's pregnancy wasn't an issue in my life. I was aware that another child was being born, but that's all I really remember. I don't know if I got really excited and tried to listen to the baby. And my mother was ill for most of that pregnancy, as my dad told me. Is it because we fall in love with someone? Not just romantic love, but with our children, our friends, our parents, with open fields and busy city streets, a random stranger who catches our eye or the coffee-person who always remembers to bring you two sugars. Does our beauty lie with how we laugh? I have an annoying laugh. I have an annoying voice, because I sound like I have something stuck in the back of my throat. Is it our voice in general, the way we speak, the way we think? I don't have an especially beautiful mind. It gets rather violent at times, actually. It's the yin-yang thing a lot of people have; there's light and dark, and grey, mished and mashed in the psyche. People say that I have a beautiful way of speaking, with my word choice, but then, it's not hard to figure out how to tug a person's heartstrings. Certain consonants, certain vowels, pitching your voice just so. Are we beautiful because we do good deeds? Give money to charity? Is it the way we move? Because I'm a klutz. Ballerinas have an inherent beauty in their styles; you can see it in the way they walk. There's grace and fluidity. There's a certain type of walk I like to see, although I see it less and less amoungst my peers. It's the type of walk where you know that the person could break into a dance at any moment. They could break into a rain dance or paparuda, do the funky chicken, fox-trot, or just pick a partner and glide around the room as if nothing could possibly deter them. I don't dance in front of people- I have no grace- but I think I could. I learnt a bit of ballroom dancing when I was younger, mostly just how to not fall over the hem of my skirt if it was long. But dancing alone, I can do. By myself, with the music. Corny as shit, but seriously- if you're bothered by reading this, why are you here? I'm corny. I still think I can save the world by myself. There's something to be said for childishness. I like people who still think that one act can save the world, even if it's as small as giving a stranger a few cents to pay for their candy bar. So maybe we're beautiful for all the ways we inadverntly change the world. Maybe we are when we smile at the forlorn looking stranger, or when we give up our seat on the bus when someone needs it, or we make someone laugh when they're having a bad day. Maybe it is our words and the stupid things we say to cheer someone up. Maybe we will change the world, and push the wheels of the universe with our tiny little hands, and see the dirt and the grime and flip it the bird and keep doing what we're doing, because damn it, no amount of stupidity in people and dark times is going to stop us from doing what we need to do. Maybe our beauty doesn't stem from our good deeds, or the fact we're in love, but because we have the capacity to do good deeds and the capacity to love. Maybe we're beautiful because everything we do is a small flutter of breath in the world, but it builds and grows into the pleasant summer breeze that cools us down, or into the gale that knocks down decay. Maybe I'm beautiful because when I'm down on my hands and knees and begging for mercy, I still think, somewhere in the back of my mind, that there's something wonderful around the next corner, and I just need to hold on until then. Maybe you're beautiful because you're sitting there, reading this, and disagreeing with me, because hell, I'm probably wrong about this. Maybe beauty is persistence in everything we do. In dancing, laughing, ignoring, crying, feeling, everything. I think this song is beautiful, and for some odd reason, it makes me feel pretty. Maybe because it makes me want to dance. So, I still don't know why I'm beautiful, but I know you're beautiful, for all your bumps and dirty little secrets, your private shame and little nicks. If everything is music, well, I guess that includes the skeletons in our closet as the bass section. imagination:: strangely peaceful connected: ES Posthumus- Nara

Who knows what in the Muggle government? ani_bester had a question regarding why Wizards even bothered telling Muggles of their existence. I ended up having a bit of a post-fest with maelwaedd, which resulted in this small essay. Who in the Muggle government knows about their existence? Obviously, it's got to be kept to a certain few. I'd wager that it varies from nation to nation, depending on their technological advancement, the amount of land they govern, and even their own ties to magic in their general culture. One thing that was brought up was what happens to Muggleborns or mixed bloods who want to melt into the Muggle world? Another one that I've pondered at work was, would such a system have a plan to cover this? Let's say, for instance, that Hermione's parents tell their co-workers that Hermione goes to a prestigious school in Scotland. Is it still called Hogwarts, or does it have another name? If there's some sort of system wherein the school's names are kept (and I really can't imagine there isn't one), how easily can you look it up? But more importantly, who organises all this? Obviously, the brunt of the load falls on the Muggle government, since the Wizarding World is aware of the Muggle World, but generally, it doesn't go the same for them. What would happen if, say, Mrs Wigglesworth became irrationally worried that Hermione had, in fact, been kidnapped or something, and she went to go check up on Hogwarts? Would she be able to find a false government file that states 'Hogwarts is an ultra-exclusive school in the North...' While Hermione's parents can get away with saying their daughter earned a scholarship, not every Muggleborn parent is going to have a child so sharp that that idea is easily digested. So I wonder: is there a section for most of the major offices that has a liaison? I can imagine some poor, harried soul working for the Education department who's frantically trying to create a system equivalent to OWLS for people who want 'Muggle' report cards to show a uni, if they decided to go a Muggle uni. Does the FBI know about this? Does the NSA has a special wizarding department that takes care of small disasters? Perhaps the Wizengamot and MI-5 have semi-annual meetings? Who could possibly organise all this, and how? Or perhaps there's a separate branch that deals exclusively with Wizard-Muggle relations. And then, there's the idea that some people are going to want to melt back into the Muggle world. Do they get school certification equivalent to a high-school diploma or GCSE, TGAU or Standard Grade? Do they have someone who deals with that? Do they have a program to re-introduce you into Muggle-life and things you may have missed? Thoughts? Tags: fandom, general questions, harry potter
