This came about after a very late night discussion with a few friends regarding Goblet of Fire.

We all know [and I should rather hope so] that Ron is the person selected as the one 'Harry would miss the most.'

However.

What brings this into the ambiguous area of Ron being the better of Harry's two best friends is Krum. Since Harry [and probably none of the other Champions] were asked who would they miss the most, it was most likely left up to the Headmasters of their school regarding the person each Champion would miss the most.

Because Krum obviously cares a great deal about Hermione, she was obviously selected as the 'victim', as it were. This allowed JK Rowling to side-step the question over who Harry would miss the most- there was really only one option left, and that was Ron. Hermione was taken out of the equation for Krum, and this left- for better or worse- Ron as Harry's 'victim.'

It can be argued that Ron would have been the person Harry would have missed the most anyways- he was Harry's first friend, aside from Hagrid [and Harry dragging Hagrid through the Lake is a bit much, and I don't care how buoyant larger people are], but the fact remains, we'll never 100% know for sure, unless JKR has already answered it, and I'm being a dumbass. Which is entirely possible, but whatever. We're really not 100% sure if Harry cares more for one than the other, judging by Harry's reaction to Hermione's near fatality in the battle for the Department of Mysteries.

Ginny, of course, is another factor- while Harry's affection for her is both different and possibly not as deep as the one he shares for his two best friends [or more deep, depending on how to interpret his reactions towards her at the end of HBP v. the discussion he has with Ron and Hermione afterwards], the fact remains that she is still an extremely important person in his life.

So, if it were a life and death situation, which one, do you think, Harry would be willing to sacrifice? Assume this is a situation where one must be sacrificed, and none of the three can tell Harry to sacrifice them. And if he could only save one, which one would he save? Again, assume that only one can be saved, and that Ron, Hermione, and Ginny cannot speak for themselves in the situation.
